Who volunteers?
At ReefDoctor we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to volunteer. There’s no upper age limit, though you have to be over 18, and we take people from all walks of life. All we ask is that you’re reasonably fit and healthy - you’ll need to have passed a diving medical before your arrival.
Our previous volunteers have come from all over the world and range in age from 18 to not telling. Everyone has their own reasons for volunteering and we respect that and try to ensure that you meet your objectives as well as us meeting ours.
Volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds, from students completing a gap year and those working towards degrees, to risk assessors on sabbatical and teachers looking for a new experience.
Up to four volunteer research assistants join ReefDoctor at any one time, staying for six or twelve weeks. This ensures that during your time with us you get the maximum possible out of your stay, with a 1:1 ratio of staff to volunteers our staff are able to devote more time to each volunteer.
For those looking to make a greater time commitment, take a look at our internship placements. Each year we allocate a small number of places to interns wishing to complete research projects or gain field experience within a conservation organisation.
