Dive professionals
If you are a certified PADI Divemaster or Instructor in teaching status and are joining ReefDoctor for a 12 week expedition, it may be possible for you to fulfill a Dive Leader role for all or part of your stay with us. If you are interested in doing this you need to talk to us first.
If we agree that you can fulfill this role we ask that you have an HSE approved professional diving medical - this is more than a recreational diving medical and will cost between £80 - £120. To find out more about professional diving medicals visit the e-med web site. If you have difficulty locating a doctor to perform the medical, visit the HSE web site for a list of HSE approved doctors.

In addition to the medical you will need to have your own professional liability insurance. There are a number of options for purchasing liability insurance, both DAN and Divemaster Insurance offer professional policies as well as the recreational ones summarised in our dive insurance section.
DAN cover can be purchased worldwide and Divemaster Insurance cover is available to residents of the EU, both have multi-lingual websites. Whether you choose one of these or a different company, you need to make sure that your insurance cover meets the requirements of PADI International, which is responsible for Africa (PADI International’s contact email addresses are available through the PADI members web site).

Finally, if you are joining us as a teaching status Divemaster or Instructor please ensure that you have sufficient equipment to be able to lead a dive. In addition to the standard equipment covered in the dive equipment section, we ask that you also have a dive computer and a DSMB (Delayed Surface Marker Buoy) with at least 10m of line and/or a reel.
