Staff roles in camp

Your core staff is made up of International and Malagasy professionals in their respective fields alongside international Interns and researchers plus local Malagasy from the villages of Ifaty and Mangily Bay of Ranobe.

They are:

Project Coordinator
Expedition Leader
Head Science Officer
Science Officers (1-3)
Head Socio-economic Officer
Socio-economic Officers (1-2)
Head Educational Officer
Educational Officers (1-2)
Staff Interns (1-2 who run the training of volunteers)
Dive Officer and Scuba Instructor
Boat Captain

Overall supervision of the ReefDoctor project is the responsibility of the ReefDoctor directors and the project coordinator (who is always on site). The main persons looking after you during your training, surveying activities and free time will be the staff Interns and the science officers, and if you have any problems with staff, work, food, in fact anything at all, please talk to them. If the problem is of a serious nature talk to the project coordinator, or the Directors who will be a short ride away in Toliara. Science activities are the responsibility of our Head science officer, who plan the work schedules and work with the project coordinator and staff interns to ensure our work is structured and effective.

Diving supervision and safety is the responsibility of the Dive Officer and Boat Captain and if you have any diving concerns talk to them. While on survey dives the science officers and interns are responsible for ensuring that you know what you are meant to be doing. During dive activities the boat Captain will also be playing his part in terms of your safety and all volunteers must listen to him and the dive instructor during all diving activities.

Medical supervision is the responsibility of the Dive Officer. For all incidents, however small, tell the officer who will provide treatment and advice, although any member of staff can be called upon for minor medical incidents.
