Jivan Vidjay Kumar
Jivan has an MSc in Geology from the University of Toilara. With previous experience in the SW Madagascar aquaculture industry, he joined Reef Doctor as a Community Aquaculture Technician & Socioeconomic Officer in 2014 and was promoted to Aquaculture Field Operations Manager in July 2016. He has now moved into the position of Project Manager. In this role he is responsible for managing the operational and logistical activities of the Ifaty project site, and overseeing and integrating all Reef Doctor staff and projects.
Accountant & Staff Manager
Pierrot from Toliara is Reef Doctor’s on-site accountant and has been with the company since 2014. In addition to accounting, he manages the Malagasy staff and organises resupply from Toliara for camp.
Nicolastin is from Ifaty village and joined Reef Doctor as Camp Manager in February 2016. He is responsible for overseeing the daily camp operations and maintenance/construction.
Dr Vivienne Stein-Rostaing, PhD
Communications Leader & Scientific Consultant
Viv holds a BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology and a MSc in Tropical Coastal Management from Newcastle University. She completed her PhD, researching the effects of ocean acidification on marine ecosystems, at Plymouth University in 2012. Viv has previously worked as a science officer at Reef Doctor in 2008 and 2012. She also has gained marine research and conservation experience in Honduras, Thailand, Seychelles, South Africa, and North Madagascar. She is currently based in the UK where she is responsible for overseeing the company’s digital communications and social media outreach, and provides external scientific research support.
Karin joined the team in 2017. She has a Bachelor degree in Information and Communication, and two Masters degrees in Journalism and Environmental Management. Before coming to Reef Doctor she had previously worked with Madagascar WWF in Besambay, a small fishing village in SW Madagascar, where she was involved in marine resource protection and social development awareness-raising and communications. Karin is responsible for regularly communicating the work of Reef Doctor via website blogs and social media updates to the general public, in addition to ensuring effective communications in country, both within the Reef Doctor team and with local stakeholders.
Operations and Strategy Development Consultant
Candice has a 25 year history in operations, project, and people management. She joined the team in 2016 as a UK-based consultant to provide strategic vision and structure to facilitate our stable infrastructure growth. She has previously managed disaster relief and resilience efforts in remote areas such as Mexico, Brazil and The Philippines.
Beth joined the team in July 2017 after completing a 6 months Research Assistant and Divemaster internship with us. When she graduated from high school, she completed a year arts foundation class and then spent some time volunteering in South Africa in wild dog conservation. During her internship she became very interested and involved in the education department. She firmly believes that education is the basis of conservation. She now works with us as both an Education Officer, where she is in charge of the Juniors and the library projects, as well as shared Volunteer Coordinator with Lara, where they are together responsible for management of our volunteer/intern training programmes and coordinating volunteers on site so that they can get the most out of their experience with Reef Doctor.
Lara also joined the team in July 2017 after completing a 6 months Research Assistant and Divemaster internship with us. She studied environmental science in the UK and in Canada. Since her graduation in 2016, she has been travelling and volunteering in many different areas and places, such as reforestation in England and marine conservation in Indonesia, amongst others. It’s in Indonesia that she really got passionate about coral reef ecology and diving. She now works with us as both the tree project manager, where she is responsible for the vegetable garden and the tree nursery, as well as the shared Volunteer Coordinator role with Beth.
